POTSDAM – The ninth annual winter lacrosse league for local high school boys gets under way soon with play this month at SUNY Potsdam’s Maxcy Field House.
Two sections, the first in November and December and the second in January, play on three consecutive Sunday sessions each.
The first section begins on Nov. 25 from 10 a.m. to noon.
Local players are invited to join fellow high school laxers from St. Lawrence and Jefferson Counties for this pre-season league. While participating in six-on-six contests, players can develop fundamental lacrosse skills and offensive and defensive strategies.
All participants will receive one-on-one coaching from two-time SUNYAC Coach of the Year Rick Berkman, his staff, and current Bears players.
To participate, boys must be 14 to 18 years old or in 8th to 12th grade. They must have a helmet, mouth guard, gloves, arm pads, a stick and sneakers at each session.
Coach Berkman and his staff will provide close supervision, and will select the teams based on players’ ages.
The cost of each section, which includes the three Sunday sessions, is $45 per player. Players can register through CLEAR at 267-2167 or www.potsdam.edu/community/clear.
