CANTON -- The “Healthy Kids Zone” will be one of the many attractions at the “Fidelis Care North Country Healthy Living Festival” Sunday, June 3 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the field house on the campus of SUNY Canton.

Area health-oriented businesses and organizations will be on hand at the festival to provide information on such topics as preventive health, holistic health, smoking cessation, healthy eating and financial health.

Live music and entertainment is also planned throughout the day. Experts will speak on a variety of topics and an attempt the break the record for the world’s largest Zumba class will take place at 4 p.m.

Also on site will be a “Healthy Jobs” section with human resource representatives from area health organizations.

The Health Initiative in conjunction with the St. Lawrence County Tobacco Free Community Partnership will sponsor the “Healthy Kids Zone” for youth of all ages. Both parties bring a unique message to the youth of the North Country by promoting a healthy, active lifestyle with an emphasis on creating healthy, tobacco free places throughout the area. A variety of activities will be offered, including giving young people the chance to make their own hula-hoops to bring home and keep them moving.

The Health Initiative is a network of groups and agencies collaborating to improve the health of St. Lawrence County Residents. The St. Lawrence County Tobacco Free Community Partnership strives to promote a tobacco free environment within the community through engagement and education.

Other sponsors of the fair include Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center and Canton-Potsdam Hospital. The event is coordinated by Community Broadcasters, which operates radio stations in the Ogdensburg and Gouverneur areas.
