A "green homes" tour of the St. Lawrence River Valley has stops in Colton and Canton Saturday, Oct. 5.
Tour "Crazy Jerry's Off-Grid Extravaganza" in Colton, where Jerry Bartlett has experimented with different types of insulation and heating and power options. Bartlett has a “rocket” wood stove, solar electricity, and Listeroid diesel co-generator.
Northern Lights Solar Energy of Canton will open their home and office space for tours as well. The local energy contractors will discuss rebates and tax incentives for homeowners. See how home-produced electricity can be used for domestic hot water production or to mow the lawn.
Chelle Lindahl of the Local Living Venture will also open her home for tours. Her home features a new rocket heater and is completely off the power grid, using solar panels.
The tour will also include stops in Jefferson County.
