NORWOOD -- Grateful Oars Rowing Club will hold its annual open house and “learn-to-row” day Saturday, June 12 at Norwood Beach.

The Grateful Oars is a community rowing club formed in 1997. Membership is open to anyone age 14 or older. Those interested may row twice before deciding whether to join.

The club uses four-oared rowing shells, and has crews rowing most weeknights and some mornings. The emphasis is more on fun and fitness than competition. Members range in age from high school to retirement, and from beginner to competitive in skill and interest.

New rowers will spend their first season rowing under the instruction of two experienced members. Experienced rowers who join the club will be assigned to a higher level crew.

Rain date is June 13. For more information, call Peter Phelan at 265-7608. The club's web site is www.gratefuloars.org.
