POTSDAM -- Graduate students will present their research on managing virtual computers, modeling luge sleds, cleaning up underwater oil well explosions and more Wednesday, Dec. 17 at Clarkson University.

Clarkson's first Graduate Research Symposium begins with an introduction and welcome from Clarkson President Tony Collins at 8:30 a.m. in CAMP.

Nearly 70 graduate students will present their research in various disciplines at the symposium. Civil engineering graduate student Indrajith Nissanka will present work on modeling oil released by underwater well explosions in order to improve cleanup efforts, electrical and computer engineering doctoral student Gildo Torres will present research on managing virtual computers in the cloud, and mechanical engineering doctoral student Bryan Heckendorf will present his work on modeling the physics of a luge sled.

Sessions will be available to watch live online at http://people.clarkson.edu/programs/grs/Venue.html .

A poster session and judging also takes place from 1 to 3 p.m.

After the presentation sessions, a dinner and awards ceremony takes place from 6 to 7:30 p.m. in the Student Center dining room. Clarkson physics doctoral candidate Daegan Gonyer of Blue Sphere Industries will be the keynote speaker.
