GOUVERNEUR -- Paid family leave legislation out of Albany is the goal of a forum to be simulcast at 95 E. Main St. and elsewhere around the state April 30.

Unions and laborer advocate groups are sponsoring the 9 to 11:30 a.m. forum, which will include a speech by Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand.

The Paid Family Leave Insurance Campaign's Steering Committee, which includes 1199 SEIU, A Better Balance, Community Service Society, New York Civil Liberties Union, New York Paid Leave Coalition, the NYS AFL-CIO and the Working Families Organization are sponsoring the event.

In each region, labor and community leaders will end their gatherings by identifying local actions and events that will be used to mobilize citizens between now and the end of the legislative session.

Over 6,000 postcard petitions will be distributed, as well as instructions for how constituents can call and write to their local Senate offices. Personal stories will be collected from families that have been affected by the lack of paid family leave in New York.
