GOUVERNEUR -- The third Pumpkin Festival, set for Sept. 27 and 28, will include crafts and children's activities, pumpkin painting, a big wheel race, food, music a pie-eating contest, chainsaw sculpture demonstrations and the pumpkin drop.

From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. both days, there will be vendors, a 4H craft show, children's activities that include scarecrow making, pumpkin painting, a big wheel race, canine costume contest, a dunk booth and food.

For the pumpkin drop, 1,000 numbered golf balls will be stuffed into a giant pumpkin. The numbers will correspond to tickets, which will be sold for $5 each. The pumpkin will be hoisted in the air by crane, dropped, and whichever three golf balls scatter the farthest away win cash prizes. First place is $300, second is $200 and first is $100. Ticketholders need not be present to win.

On Saturday from 10 a.m. to noon, pumpkins will be received to show and weigh. A band will perform from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., a chicken barbeque starting at noon and the first pumpkin drop at 3 p.m.

On Sunday, a band will play from 10 a.m. to noon. The youth pumpkin weigh-off will go from 11 a.m. to noon. The pumpkin pie-eating contest and chainsaw carving demonstration will start at 1:30 p.m. From 1 to 3 p.m. will be a classic car show. The giant pumpkin weigh-off and award ceremony will go from 1 to 2 p.m. The day will cap off with a second pumpkin drop at 3 p.m.
