GOUVERNEUR -- The Gouverneur Museum, 30 Church St., will offer free genealogy research help July 23 from 4:30 to 8 p.m.

Experienced researchers from the St. Lawrence Valley Genealogical Society will provide assistance to people interested in researching their family histories.

The research room includes dozens of indexed scrapbooks, family files, a card file of extractions from Gouverneur papers and many other resources.

Beginning at 4:30 p.m., the museum will be open for all interested visitors. Volunteers will guide visitors through the period living room, dining room, music room, children’s room, and bedroom, plus the women’s room, and military room.

In the cellar are mining and mineral exhibits, Kinney Drugs history, an old-time doctor’s office and more. The outbuilding has tools and household items, horse-drawn fire apparatus and many other items of interest.

The Gouverneur Museum and the St. Lawrence Valley Genealogical Society sponsor this open house.

The St. Lawrence Valley Genealogical Society meeting will take place at 7:15 p.m.

The Museum is regularly open year-round, Wednesday and Saturday from 1 to 3 p.m., and by appointment.
