POTSDAM -- A new exhibit is opening at The Gibson Gallery at SUNY Potsdam featuring work by over fifty local artists who are members of St. Lawrence County Arts Council.

During the opening reception on Friday, June 26, from 5 to 7 p.m., the council will present awards for Best in Show and an Honorable Mention.

Paul N. Pedersen, Hermon, will be awarded Best in Show for his oil painting, "Ann." He will be presented with a $100 cash prize and free membership for a year. Ron Larsen of Crary Mills will be recognized with an Honorable Mention for his photograph, "Spring."

Nearly 100 pieces of artwork are on display. Visitors are encouraged to vote for their favorite piece; the piece which receives the most votes will win People's Choice and be awarded a $25 gift certificate donated by First Crush Bistro and free SLC Arts membership for a year.

The exhibit is free and open to the public and will be on display Mondays through Fridays from 1 to 4 p.m. from June 26 to July 31, or call The Gibson at 267-3290 for an appointment.
