POTSDAM -- The 2015-16 season of “The Met: Live in HD” continues with an encore performance of Giacomo Puccini’s “Turandot” at the Roxy Theater, 20 Main St., Saturday, Jan. 30 at 6:30 p.m.
An encore performance is slated for Feb. 14 at 12:55 p.m. The show last about three and a half hours.
Puccini’s final opera is an epic fairy tale set in a China of legend, loosely based on a play by 18th-century Italian dramatist Carlo Gozzi.
Featuring a most unusual score with an astounding and innovative use of chorus and orchestra, it is still recognizably Puccini, bursting with instantly appealing melody. The task of completing the opera’s final scene upon Puccini’s sudden death was left to the composer Franco Alfano. Conductor Arturo Toscanini oversaw Alfano’s contribution and led the world premiere.
Tickets prices are $18 for an adult, $15 for senior citizens, $12 for students and $9 for youth age 18 and under.
Tickets are available by calling the Community Performance Series Box Office at 267-2277, by visiting the Roxy Theater in downtown Potsdam or stopping by the CPS Box Office in the lobby of SUNY Potsdam’s Performing Arts Center. You can also reserve tickets online, at www.cpspotsdam.org/eventpgs/methd.html.
