CANTON -- The 24th annual “Gateways to Careers” event will be held Wednesday, March 22, from 8:30 to noon at Roos House, on the SUNY Canton campus.

“Gateways 2017” will give more than 1,100 students from all eighteen school districts comprising the St. Lawrence-Lewis BOCES, the opportunity to learn critical job seeking skills; and the knowledge of how a good resume, proper attire, and a positive attitude can influence an employer.

The event is open to both juniors and seniors, and this year employers will have the opportunity to interact with more than 275 juniors from our local schools.

Students across the St. Lawrence-Lewis BOCES have been preparing for Gateways. Students have been focusing on resume-writing, creating potential employer lists, informational interviewing, and showcasing their projects and achievements through the use of a professional portfolio.

Over 70 area employers participating in “Gateways 2017” on March 22 will evaluate each student on the basis of preparedness, attitude, skills and knowledge, and readiness for work.

About 400 students at a time will arrive at Roos House for one of three, 90 minute sessions.

During that time students can expect at least three mock interviews each, with plenty of helpful feedback provided by the employers.

Along with area businesses, students will also have the opportunity to meet with college and military representatives.

This event is sponsored by the St. Lawrence-Lewis BOCES, New York State Department of Labor, and Penski Staffing a CorTech Company.
