POTSDAM -- Canton-Potsdam Hospital will host a dinner-lecture March 12 at 5:30 p.m. at The Club, 25 Court St., as part of the “Ask Our Medical Provider” series featuring gastroenterologist Xiaosong Song.

March is CPH’s Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month and Song will speak on early detection of colorectal cancers, and ensuring that those over age 50 are screened yearly.

While colorectal cancer rates are very high in the North Country, it is a highly treatable cancer if detected early, according to CPH.

“Colorectal cancer is the third leading cause of cancer-related deaths in the U.S., but when diagnosed early survival rates are 90 percent at the critical five year marker. Early detection for colorectal cancer is the most effective treatment and screening should be part of a checkup for everyone over 50, or younger, for those with a family history,” Song said.

Admission is free, however reservations are required. Contact Deborah Lauther at 261-5413 or dchaselauther@cphospital.org to reserve your seat.
