POTSDAM -- GardenShare invites one and all to the Growing Community Social on Thursday, Nov. 1 from 4:30-8:30 p.m. at SUNY Potsdam’s Thatcher Hall.
The event will honor Gloria McAdam, retired GardenShare executive director, for her contributions to the anti-hunger movement and North Country local food system, as well as the joys of community and harvest in the North Country.
During her nearly three years at GardenShare, Gloria helped the organization sharpen its focus, fine-tune the mission, strengthen fund and program development.
This year, GardenShare is partnering with SUNY Potsdam’s WISER Center to host the annual Growing Community Social.
GardenShare is excited to grow a partnership with WISER, which works with such diverse organizations as Nature Up North, the St. Regis Mohawk Tribe of Akwesasne, Cornell Cooperative Extension, and the People Project to create a wide variety of learning opportunities centered around sustainability and ecology for students from SUNY Potsdam and surrounding school districts in the St. Lawrence Valley.
For the Growing Community Social, the WISER Center, 205 Stowell Hall on the SUNY Potsdam campus, will be open and staffed with students and faculty from 4:30-6:30 p.m.
Community members are invited to join them inside their beautiful state-of-the-art greenhouse and learning space to hear about WISER’s current initiatives.
During the same time, folks are welcome to visit the cash bar in Thatcher Hall.
At 6:30, visitors will enjoy a dinner being served by PACES – the university’s award-winning dining service – upstairs in Thatcher Hall.
The meal, which will showcase the best of the season’s local products, is free of charge.

The event is made possible due to generous support from the WISER Center, Arconic Foundation, Corning Foundation and GardenShare supporters.
