CANTON -- A workshop for beginning gardeners called "Start Your Garden Seedlings Indoors & Learn How to Transplant: Hands-on Workshop" is scheduled for Saturday, April 29, from 3-5 p.m.
The workshop will be led by Birdsfoot Organic Farm & CSA coordinator and market gardener Dulli Tengeler, and will be held near Canton, NY. Registration is required due to limited space.
For anyone who seeks the basics on how to grow vegetables and flowers from scratch, this is an opportunity to learn the basics of planting seeds, transplanting seedlings and much more from one of the most experienced organic gardeners in the region.
Attendees will learn what containers to use for what plants, how to make home made potting soil from compost, how to fill containers and seed different crops (including some flowers). They will also transplant some vegetables and herbs as well as learn about timing the seeding, planting seedlings out, and different varieties.
Participants will be able to take home several organic seedlings of their own from the workshop.
The sponsor for this event is the Potsdam Agway Garden Center; providing organic potting soil, pots, seeds and more in a friendly atmosphere.
An optional farm tour will follow the course. A second session may be added if there's overflow. Attendance is limited so an RSVP is needed.
Contact 315-347-4223, or LocalLivingVenture@gmail.com with the number in the party, a phone number and email address to register.
There is a suggested donation of $22, $40 for couples, or $10 for students. Proceeds benefit Local Living Venture workshop creation. Scholarships are available when registering.
