POTSDAM -- “Fright Night” returns Thursday, Oct. 27, celebrating Halloween with treats, games, a pumpkin trail and other events.

The Potsdam Chamber of Commerce will host the Halloween-themed celebration from 5:30 to 8 p.m., Potsdam Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Marylee Ballou said.

It takes place in the section of Market Street between Main Street and Elm Street, which will be blocked off to vehicle traffic in order to provide space for businesses to set up activities, performances, and safety.

A costume contest is in the works, but Ballou was not 100 percent certain it would take place. She said she was looking for a business to host it.

There will be a “Pumpkin Trail” set up again in Ives Park.

A haunted venue traditionally held at Great Northern Printing, 6 Main St., will not take place this year due to conflicting schedules.

The Chamber will once hold a pumpkin carving party at the Chamber office, 24 Market St., from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 26.

Pumpkins and carving materials will be available.

“No young children, and it is geared toward people who love carving pumpkins,” she said.

It is limited to 12 people. RSVP and info: Chamber office at 274-9000.

Musical Way Academy will perform live music at 6 p.m. Tap to Toe Studio will offer a performance in the blocked street at 6:30.

Ballou said dozens of downtown businesses are expected to celebrate with giveaways, candy, treats, carnival-style games and pumpkin painting.

Flyers promoting Fright Night are sent home with elementary students at Potsdam Central School and Norwood-Norfolk Central prior to the event, Ballou said.
