POTSDAM -- “Fright Night” returns Thursday, Oct. 26, celebrating Halloween with treats, games, a pumpkin patch and parade.

The Potsdam Chamber of Commerce will host the Halloween-themed celebration from 5:30 to 8 p.m., Potsdam Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Marylee Ballou said.

It takes place in the section of Market Street between Main Street and Elm Street, which will be blocked off to vehicle traffic starting at 4 p.m. in order to provide space for businesses to set up activities, performances, and safety.

A cupcake walk will make its debut, Ballou said, which will be hosted by the C.O.R.C. Store. Kids will have a chance to win a cupcake for 25. “It should be fun for the kids,” she said.

There will be a “Pumpkin Patch” set up inside the blocked off area. There will not be a trail in Ives Park like in previous years. The pumpkins will be carved by local college students.

A haunted venue traditionally held at Great Northern Printing, 6 Main St., will be replaced with a haunted skit. “Strangers & Things” will be presented at Great Northern Printing and children need to be accompanied by an adult.

“I expect it to be pretty scary,” Ballou said.

Step it Out and Tap to Toe Studio will offer a pair of performances in the blocked street.

Ballou said dozens of downtown businesses are expected to celebrate with giveaways, candy, treats, and carnival-style games. Business around the block will also participate including Grace Boutique, 3 Bears Bakery, and Maple Run Emporium.

A haunted alley attraction will be held near Chilly Delight as well.

Live music will be offered at Jernabi Coffeehouse.

The owner of Market Lanes bowling alley will bring his fire truck down and children can tour it.

The event is held rain or shine, unless there is lightning or a severe snow storm, Ballou said.

Participating businesses include: Northern Ice & Dance, St. Lawrence FCU, C.O.R.C. Thrift Store, Arby’s, Rotary Club, Chilly Delight, ADK Regional FCU, Artistic Congress, Jernabi, Walmart, Grace Boutique, Collegiate Village, Maple Run Emporium, 3 Bears, Market Lanes, Potsdam Food Co-op, Brick & Mortar Music, Isle of You, Maxfield’s, First Crush, Argent’s, Today’s Hair & Day Spa, Little Italy, Great Northern Printing and the University Bookstore.
