COLTON -- The Friends of Higley Flow State Park have planned two events in conjunction with Colton Winterfest.
On Saturday Jan. 28 they will sponsor the Rod Thomas Memorial Higley Hustle Ski Races. Registration begins at 9 a.m. for the 10 a.m. 5k race with age and gender divisions for all ages. Skiers of all abilities are welcome. The fee is $10.
At 11 a.m. registration for the youth race for under 14 begins with distances scaled by age up to 2.5k. At 11:30 a.m. there will be warm-up games on snow followed by the race at noon. Race entry fee is $5. Light refreshments will be provided.
On Sunday, Jan. 29, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. there will be a Family Day at the park. New this year are ski and snowshoe rentals. Youth cross-country rentals for those 12 and under are free. Adult rentals are available for $7. All rentals are supplied at the park maintenance building on the right as you enter the park.
SLU ski team members will offer free lessons to interested skiers of all ages and abilities. There will be a gear swap and sale. Skiers are invited to bring their good used equipment to sell. Light refreshments will be provided through the day.
