POTSDAM -- Ogdensburg native Mark Ashley will present a symposium on brain injury concussions diagnosis, awareness and treatment Friday, Oct. 17, from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Dunn Theater, SUNY Potsdam.

Dr. Ashley is the Founder and President/CEO of Centre for Neuro Skills (CNS), which has operated postacute brain injury rehabilitation programs at facilities in Bakersfield, California, Encino, California, Emeryville, California and Irving, Texas, since 1980.

He serves on the Board of Directors of the Brain Injury Association of America, as the Secretary and serves on the Executive Committee. He also serves on the Board of Directors of the California Brain Injury Association and is the Immediate Past Chair. He serves the Association as Chair of the Board Development Committee and Chair of the Legislative Committee. He served as the Vice Chairman of the Access to Treatment Committee of the Business and Professional Council, and the FLAC -Federal Legislative Advisory Committee for The Brain Injury Association of America.

He also is currently serving on the Advisory Panel for the Brain Injury Association of America’s project for the development of Guidelines for the Rehabilitation and Disease Management of Adults with Moderate to Severe Traumatic Brain Injury.

He served on the California Traumatic Brain Injury Advisory Council. He is a member of the Advisory Committee for the Department of Rehabilitation Sciences, Cyprus University of Technology, and a member of the Advisory Board for the Applied Neuroscience and Neurobehavioral Research Center (ANNRC), University of Cyprus. He participated in preparation of Traumatic Brain Injury Medical Treatment Guidelines for the State of Colorado Department of Labor and Employment and serves on several grant review committees. He worked to establish BIAA’s, Brain Injury Business Practices College and the Business and Professional Council.

Dr. Ashley received his Masters Degree in Speech Pathology and a Doctorate of Science from Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, Illinois. Dr. Ashley is a licensed Speech/Language Pathologist in California and Texas and is a Certified Case Manager.
