MASSENA -- Beginning Aug. 26, Massena-area children can take advantage of free yoga classes at St Lawrence Center, Rt. 37.
Classes will be held from 2 to 3 p.m. each Sunday through Nov. 18. Parents can drop off their kids for 60 minutes of stretching, bending and breathing. Classes are geared for kids with low-intensive stretches, education about the importance of keeping the body pliable, and fun competitions to encourage everyone to participate. Children with disabilities are welcome.
Parents are required to sign a release and liability waiver upon drop off. Children must be picked up by 3 p.m.
Instructor Debra Donatto moved to Massena in July 2011. She is the creator of All Moving Forward ( http://www.allmovingforward.com/ ), an organization to support and advocate for children with autism spectrum disorder. She organizes monthly parent support meeting in Massena for families that have children with disabilities, and hosts play groups for children with social deficits. She is the mother of two children 9 and 11 - her son has autism.
