Free workshops on art funding to be offered in Potsdam

POTSDAM -- This spring and summer, the St. Lawrence County Arts Council will offer free informational workshops about art funding opportunities available to North Country artists, municipalities, public libraries, and not-for-profit organizations.

The council offers three different grant programs. Public Art Fellowships commission new, community-engaging projects; Teaching Artists’ Fund grants encourages artists to partner with K-12 schools to offer curriculum- enriching projects in a classroom setting; and Community Arts Grants fund public arts experiences that bring culture and creativity to our local communities. Eligible disciplines include but are not limited to music, visual arts, theater, dance, electronic media or film, and literary arts.

Workshops are scheduled from May to August throughout the region. All first-time applicants are required to attend a workshop in the current year prior to submitting an application; returning applicants are encouraged to attend. Register for workshops in advance at www.slcartscouncil.org/grants. Workshops with fewer than three registrants 24 hours before may be cancelled.

Application deadlines are Sept. 1 for Public Arts Fellowships and Teaching Artist Fund, and Oct. 1 for Community Arts. These funding opportunities are made possible with funds from the Decentralization Program, a regrant program of the New York State Council on the Arts, with the support of Governor Andrew Cuomo and the New York State Legislature, and administered by the St. Lawrence County Arts Council.

For more information about grant opportunities, to register for a workshop, and to view online applications and guidelines, visit www.slcartscouncil.org/grants.
