GOUVERNEUR -- St. Lawrence Valley landowners can register for a free wildlife habitat workshop on Saturday, June 27 at the Gouverneur Public Library, 60 Church St. Participants will learn about bird and wildlife-friendly management techniques for their property that benefit shrub land, young forest, and mature forest birds, such as golden-winged warblers and wood thrushes.

People should arrive by 8:30 a.m.

Free refreshments and lunch will be provided.

This workshop brings landowners together with experts on wildlife and habitat management. Participating landowners will hear from a series of presenters about wildlife they can attract through proper habitat management, the basics of golden-winged warbler habitat, and where they can find resources, tools and potential partners to help them plan for managing habitat to benefit wildlife on their property. Audubon New York, New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYS DEC), Clarkson University, and the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) will present.

Visits to habitat demonstration site in the afternoon will follow presentations. This will allow participants to see quality early successional and mature forest habitat and learn about restoring habitat to meet the needs of declining bird species dependent on these habitat types. Birds are in the midst of their breeding season, so participants should bring binoculars to get a little birding in while out visiting habitat sites.

Registration deadline is June 24: lrowse@audubon.org or 782-7289 ext.112.
