CANTON -- Hospice and Palliative Care of St. Lawrence Valley, the First Presbyterian Church of Canton and North Country Public Radio will host a free screening and discussion of the Emmy nominated PBS FRONTLINE documentary "Being Mortal" at the church's 17 Park St. location from 7 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 29.

Based on the best-selling book by Atul Gawande, MD, the documentary explores the hopes of patients and families facing terminal illness and their relationships with the physicians who treat them.

“For several years Linda Potter of the First Presbyterian Church has been hosting Death Cafés. With Hospice’s experience in caring for community members at the end of life and providing support for bereaved family members, coming together to offer this very special program was a natural fit,” said Mary Jones, Director of Family Support Services for Hospice.

“We want people to think about how far they want to go before they stop treatment, before they want to just be with their family and live out their life,” Jones said.

“It’s not a bad thing to think about, it’s a healthy thing to do. We’re not advancing one position over the other. We just want people to have the conversation.”
