COLTON – A free Qigong demonstration and class will be lead by Andrea Malik, certified personal trainer and Qigong teacher, during the Colton Country Days celebrations, on Wednesday, July 18, from 10:30-11:30 a.m.

Malik, also known in the community as the “Black Fly Diva,” directs the town’s Bti Black Fly and Mosquito Control Programs and leads invasive species work focused on Japanese knotweed and variable leaf milfoil.

Malik has trained in the martial arts for 38 years since 1980, recently became a 6th degree black belt.

She invites older and younger folks including seasoned athletes and people not particularly interested in exercising to learn about Qigong.

Similar but different to Tai Chi, Qigong is an ancient practice that focuses on life’s energy that flows through the body’s energy pathways. It is a synergy of posture, breathing techniques, gentle movement, and visualization to gather, cleanse, and circulate the body’s energy or “Qi,” said a press release.

If the weather cooperates, the event will take place at the gazebo on Main Street overlooking the Stone Valley section of the Raquette River. The rain location will be the Town Hall.

For more information, contact Andrea Malik by calling 315-212-6259.

The complete Colton Country Days schedule of activities from July 15-22 is available at the Town Hall and at the Stone Valley Information Center in the Colton Museum as well as on the town’s website (www.townofcolton.com). Updates are posted on the Town of Colton page on Facebook.
