POTSDAM -- SUNY Potsdam geology professor emeritus Dr. Frank Revetta will lead free planetarium shows once again this semester beginning Jan. 19 with “Winter Constellations.”

All are welcome to join to learn more about stars and the universe.

Planetarium shows are held every Thursday at 4 p.m., in the college’s planetarium, located in the basement of Stowell Hall. To reach the planetarium, enter Stowell from the west entrance, near Minerva Plaza. Each show lasts about 45 minutes, and guests of all ages are welcome.

Attendees are encouraged to arrive early, because once the show begins, the door is locked. No food or drinks are allowed in the planetarium and, as darkness is required, cell phones cannot be used during the show. Free parking is available in Lot 6, near Kellas Hall.

The spring 2017 schedule is as follows: Jan. 19: “Winter Constellations,” Jan. 26: “Brightest Stars,” Feb. 2: “Circumpolar Constellations,” Feb. 9: “North Star (Polaris),” Feb. 16: “Spring-Summer Constellations,” Feb. 23: “Worldwide Constellations,” March 2: “Vernal Equinox,” March 9: “How Astronomers Locate Stars,” March 16: “The Sun’s Path,” March 23: “The Seasons,” March 30: “Constellations of the Zodiac,” April 6: “The Sky This Week,” April 13: “Precession of Equinoxes,” April 20: “Stories of Constellations,” April 27: “The Solar System,” May 4: “Motions in the Heavens” and May 11: “History of Astronomy.”

In addition to the scheduled sessions, Revetta also offers planetarium shows for groups of five people or more. For more information, contact Revetta at 267-3441 or revettfa@potsdam.edu, or Roberta Greene at 267-2286 or greenera@potsdam.edu.
