Free household hazardous waste collection Aug. 11 in Ogdensburg

OGDENSBURG -- A free household hazardous waste and pharmaceutical/controlled substance collection day will be held Aug. 11 at the Ogdensburg Bridge and Port Authority Industrial Park, building 9, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. This event is designed to ensure the safe disposal of hazardous products.

The event is sponsored by the Development Authority of the North Country, St Lawrence County and the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation.

• Accepted materials include:

• Solvents Epoxy resins

• Accepted Items

• Pesticides Polishes & waxes

• Vehicle fluids (no motor oil) Driveway sealers

• Fluorescent light tubes

• Wood preservatives

• Adhesives Corrosives

• Antifreeze Home chemistry sets

• Pool chemicals Products containing mercury

• Photography chemicals Oil based paints & stains (NO LATEX PAINT)

• Household cleaning products Aerosol cans-(with product in them)

This event will also allow residents of St. Lawrence, Jefferson and Lewis County to dispose of the following materials:

• TVs

• Computers

• Printers

• Monitors

• VCRs

• Fax Machines

• Scanners and more

The following materials will not be accepted:

Asbestos Medications & infectious waste

Materials containing PCB’s Tires

Motor Oil (take to service station) Non-hazardous recyclable materials

Batteries (single use alkaline) Unsorted solid waste

Smoke detectors Radioactive materials

Non-residential hazardous waste (no businesses/commercial institutions)

Automotive batteries (take to battery retailer for recycling)

Construction & demolition debris

Explosives, flares and munitions
