CANTON – Free genealogy research help and museum tours will be available Friday, May 29 from noon until 8 p.m. at the Silas Wright House, 3 East Main St.
Experienced researchers from the St. Lawrence Valley Genealogical Society, including Norm Young, will provide assistance in researching family histories.
Beginning at 5 p.m., 6 p.m., and 7 p.m., guided tours of the Silas Wright House and Museum will be available. The tours will include the seldom-seen collections storage area on the third floor, where artifacts are stored when not on display, as well as the resources available in the research room and archives.
Current exhibits at the SLCHA include displays on J. Henry Rushton, the wooden canoe and boat builder; 19th century quilts; General N.M. Curtis, the (Civil War) Hero of Fort Fisher; Frederic Remington, the artist; and camps along the Grasse River in Canton.
