OGDENSBURG -- The Frederic Remington Art Museum, 303 Washington St., will celebrate its 90th anniversary Friday, July 19 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. with birthday cake, a short wave radio special event station, and kid’s games.
Maintenance Assistant Martin Dempsey, a ham radio operator, created the event, beginning with a special W2R FCC call sign. From 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Dempsey and some other operators will operate a short wave set-up from the museum’s restored Parish Mansion porch.
“I want this to be an event, to promote the Frederic Remington Art Museum on a worldwide basis,” said Dempsey.
The frequencies they will use are 28.350 24.950 21.300 14.325 MHz + 10 khz.
Callers will be encouraged to visit the museum’s website to request an official certificate to commemorate their communication with the museum.
Kid’s Place will celebrate with games and activities from the 1920’s, such as “Uncle Wiggily” and “Pick-Up Sticks” from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
