Former Johnny Carson Show bandleader Doc Severinsen will open Potsdam Community Performance Series

POTSDAM -- Potsdam Community Performances has released its fall schedule and will open its series Aug. 15 with Doc Severinsen and the San Miguel Five.

Severinsen will play Hosmer Hall at 7:30 p.m. The trumpeter and bandleader is known best for leading the NBC Orchestra on The Tonight Show starring Johnny Carson. He currently leads the San Miguel Five in variety of Latin and gypsy styled jazz.

While Severinsen may be one of the better known guests at this year's series the line up continues through April with other acclaimed musical acts.

On Oct. 2, Aquila Theatre will perform Cyrano De Bergerac at the Snell Theatre at 7:30 p.m. The romantic adventure tale is set in France.

Oct. 14 Bruce Neswick, an award-winning organist, will perform at Hosmer Hall. Newwick is a member of the organ faculty at Indiana University and was previously Director of Music at the Cathedral Church of St. John the Divine.

Nov. 11 Calefax Reed Quintet will perform at 7:30 p.m. at Hosmer Hall. The award-winning ensemble has 25 years of experience and has played at many countries throughout the world.

Jan. 31 and Feb, 1 Luna Negra Dance Threatre will perform with the Turtle Island Quartet at the Snell Theatre at 7:30 p.m.

Feb. 2 Turtle Island Quartet will play at Hosmer Hall at 7:30 p.m. The Grammy winning string ensemble will perform music focusing on John Coltrane and Jimi Hendrix.

Feb. 22 Terri Lyne Carrington will play at Hosmer Hall at 7:30 p.m. The Grammy winning jazz drummer will perform her "Mosaic" project, a celebration of female artists.

March 15 Lawrence Brownlee will perform with Martin Katz at Hosmer Hall at 7:30 p.m. Brown is a world-reknowned tenor who performs with the world's leading opera companies. He will be joined by pianist Martin Katz.

April 20 Los Angeles Guitar Quartet will perform at Hosmer Hall at 7:30 p.m. the ensemble has been performing together for 32 years and is considered one of the most multifaceted groups in any genre.
