RUSSELL -- Food, raffles, children’s games, music, auctions, music, dancing, races and fireworks are just a some of the activities planned for Russell Fire and Rescue’s 10th Summerfest Saturday, July 15, and Sunday, July 16.
“We are hoping to have a great turnout,” said Angela A. Peters, one of the organizers of Summerfest, held at 5 Pestle St.
A full schedule of events is planned, including craft fair with 30 vendors expected, and village-wide garage sales planned all weekend.
New this year will be the 5K walk/run for Believe NNY, said Peters.
“Believe NNY helps Firefighters, EMT's, members of ladies Auxiliaries and affiliated members in Essex, Franklin, Hamilton, Jefferson, Lewis and ST. Lawrence counties who suffer from a life threatening illness, such as cancer,” she said.
“(Summerfest) is the department’s biggest fundraiser,” Peters said. “We use the proceeds to cover items that our budget doesn't. For instance, our community children's Santa Day. We have over a 100 kids who each get a gift from Santa. We have also bought shaking bed smoke detectors for children who live in our district who are deaf.”
Concession sales, silent auction, 50-50, and lottery tree will be staged by the department over the weekend to help raise money for their various community programs.
In addition, Fire and Rescue will raffle off an Old Town Kayak or $500. Tickets are $2 each or 3 for $5. The drawing will take place July 16.
