RUSSELL -- Voss Fernandes and the Flying Coconuts will give a concert Saturday, Sept. 20, at 7 p.m. at the Russell Theater, 4 Pestle St.
Singer-songwriter Voss Ka`ilianu Fernandes was born and raised on the island of Kauai, back before Hawaii became the 50th state. Voss and percussionist Brian Smith anchor the Flying Coconuts, and a variety of other musicians often add their talents to the show.
Voss and the Flying Coconuts sing the fun, thoughtful songs of John Prine, along with country/blue grass songs by the likes of Jerry Jeff Walker, Merle Haggard, John Denver, and others. They mix in classic rock songs, many by Neil Young, John Mellencamp, Jackson Browne, and always a few songs about Hawaii.
There is no charge for this concert, but donations will be accepted at the door.
