Fishing, barn quilts, flea market, BBQ, fireworks, frog jumping planned for Colton Country Days July 16-23

COLTON – The annual Colton Country Days organized by the Colton Historical Society and partners will be held July 16-23.

Fishing, hikes, a barn quilt celebration, kayaking, craft and flea market, barbecue, fireworks, and the famous frog jumping contest are among the activities scheduled for Country Days. The events will also include live music and some musical theater.

Things get started on July 16 with a youth fishing derby at Swift Field in South Colton and a Stone Valley Walk to the Tannery Site scheduled.

North Country Public Radio will stage its Work Project on July 17.

A barn quilt celebration will take place on July 18.

On July 19, a meet-the-author and book signing, disc golf clinic and play, and a Colton Riverside Performance by Don Woodcock and Gretchen Koehler from 6-8 p.m. at the gazebo on Main Street are slated.

The musical “Working” by the Sunday Rock Legacy Project is scheduled for July 20 and 21 at 7 p.m. and July 23 at 2 p.m. at the Old Colton Fire Station, 89 Riverside Drive.

A waterfoil information meeting and a used book sale are Country Days activities scheduled on July 21.

July 22 is the traditional Colton Country Day and things get started with a pancake breakfast at 7 a.m. at the United Methodist Church. Whitewater kayaking in Stone Valley will kick off 8 a.m., a craft and flea market is scheduled at 9 a.m. along Main Street and in the Fire Station. Frog jumping is at 10 next to the museum and a chicken barbecue will be served at 11 at the fire station.

Then throughout the day will be a Colton Museum open house and exhibit, used book sale, barn quilt sales, Judy Filarecki’s artwork displayed, bake sale, a pub block party with music scheduled.

Finally, events conclude with an ice cream social at 7:30 p.m., followed by fireworks at fireman’s field.
