MASSENA – The first annual “Sandy’s Steps to Edge Out ALS 5K Walk/Run” will take place May 10 at Robert Moses State Park, 19 Robinson Bay Rd.
Registration opens at 11 a.m. with walkers beginning at noon.
The fee is $10, anyone who pre-registers will receive a free t-shirt.
Participants can register the day of the event.
There will be a limited amount of t-shirts sold the day of the event for $10. Bandanas will be sold for $5.
Other activities include a chicken barbecue at 11 a.m. for $10, raffles, bake sale, bottle drive and a craft station for kids.
Sandy’s Steps to Edge Out ALS is a non-profit organization reaching out to those with Lou Gehrig’s Disease. Sandra Tulga, whom this organization is in honor of, was affected by this disease. Instead of taking pity on herself, she encouraged people to take action, the group says.
Half of the proceeds will go towards a local family struggling with ALS and the other half will be sent to institutes to aid in research on drugs to treat ALS.
Dogs are welcome for the 5K, but must be on a leash and with an adult.
