MORRISTOWN -- A parade, fireworks, tractor pulls and more will be held in Morristown in celebration of Independence Day.

Fire Chief Kevin Crosby says the celebration begins Sunday July 3 with fireworks behind the fire station at dusk. Vendors will be onsite.

“The Morristown Fire Department field days are a great family get-together, where friends, family and classmates gather to catch up,” Crosby said. “The 4th of July celebration represents the Morristown Fire Department's biggest fundraiser of the year. Money made is used to purchase and maintain fire and rescue equipment. This is the FD's 116th annual field days. We hope to please everybody with a great firework show and a gigantic parade”

The fun continues Monday at 10 a.m. on Main Street, where local school bands will compete. Floats, fire trucks and more will also travel down the parade route.

At 11:30 a.m. volunteers will serve up barbecue chicken while visitors enjoy an antique tractor pull, kids games and a 50/50 raffle.

The fire department will also be serving up concessions including hot dogs, sausages, French fries, bread dough, snow cones, cotton candy and ice-cold beverages.

The event is one of fire department’s largest fundraisers of the yea.

“Bring your family and come and enjoy these great events and support the Morristown Fire Department,” Crosby said.

Crosby said people attending events should be informed of the following changes in parking, traffic flow and the ban of animals on village owned property during the events.

He says a temporary parking ban in the 300-400 blocks of Main Street will be effective from 6 a.m. until noon on July 4.

Any and all vehicles or trailers parked in the 300-400 block of Main Street will be towed at the owner’s expense. Main Street and Chapman Street will be closed to traffic from 9:30 a.m. to noon for the parade.

For the public’s safety there is a ban on all dogs on village owned property this includes the fire station.

“The village of Morristown and the Morristown Fire Department would like to thank the public for their assistance during the July 4 celebration,” Crosby said.
