CANTON -- Assemblyman Ken Blankenbush, R-Black River, announced that the 117th Assembly District will host a financial coaching workshops for veterans in the North Country.

At these workshops, veterans will receive individualized educational assistance to help set and meet their financial goals. A workshop is slated for May 9 from 2 until 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Miller Campus Center, Rooms 218-220 at SUNY Canton.

Blankenbush, who represents southwestern St. Lawrence County, said “I’m thrilled we are able to bring a program such as this to our district.” “This program is meant to provide crucial financial advisement and assistance and ensure that the brave men and women of our armed forces are taken care of. We must give them access to all the tools necessary for making the transition back to civilian life a smooth one.”

According to the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, roughly 250,000 service members leave active duty each year and while the Department of Defense offers a Transition Assistance Program, many of these men and women find managing their money difficult and seek assistance to help with reorganizing their finances.
