HOPKINTON -- The 2015 Hopkinton Summer Fest celebration featuring live music, a parade, bounce houses, food and fireworks on Saturday, July 18, will be its final one.
“We started it the year after our bicentennial…so in 2003 we held our first one,” according to event organizer Vickie French.
French said the decision to make this year’s event the final one stemmed from a lack of volunteers.
But for this year, the party will go on in at the town hall, beginning with a parade at 10 a.m.
The parade route runs from State Highway 11B to County Route 49 and is expected to see nearly 60 entries including fire departments, local organization, businesses, the highway department and more.
“Anyone and everyone is invited to join in the parade,” she said.
For those who wish to enter the parade, contact Sue Lyons at 328-4183, or just show up before 9:15 a.m. at the field near Lamphere’s Trucking and General Repair on State Highway 11B.
Six different performers will entertain audiences with live music in the gazebo starting with two performances by Tyros and I, from 9:30 to 10 a.m. and 10:30 until 11 a.m. The Drifters will play from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. followed by North Country from 12:30 to 2 p.m.
Other performances include River MoHawks from 2 until 3 p.m., Oshier from 3:30 to 5 p.m. and the final performance will be by Kickin Kountry Cloggers.
Kids can burn off some energy in two bounce house houses. There will be a five-in-one combo and an obstacle course for children to run through. Kids will receive free glow sticks as well.
A talent show will award cash prizes to winners. In past years there have people who sang, played instruments and danced. The talent show is slated for 6:30 p.m. To enter the talent contest, contact Sue Wood at 328-4321. All ages are welcome to perform.
Concessions will be open all day selling hamburgers, hotdogs, sausages, French fries, fried dough and more.
A chicken barbeque to benefit the Hopkinton-Fort Jackson Fire Department will be held at 5 p.m. with take-outs ready to go at 4:30 p.m.
A fireworks display will close out the festival at 10 p.m. behind NuMed, 2880 State Highway 11B. They are sponsored by the festival committee.
“Everything is free to do except for food and drinks,” French said.
