POTSDAM -- The film "I Am Not Your Negro” will be next film in the current Cinema 10 series at the Roxy Theater Oct. 16 at 7:15 p.m.
The 2016 movie, shot in Switzerland, France, Belgium, and the USA, and directed by Raoul Peck, is narrated by Samuel L. Jackson.
“I Am Not Your Negro is a documentary extension of James Baldwin’s unfinished work “Remember This House.”
In the narrative, Baldwin explores the history of racism in the United States through his reminiscences of Malcolm X, Martin Luther King Jr., Medgar Evers, and his own experiences.
Writing for the Globe and Mail, Durga Chen-Bose says the film is “an astonishing, often challenging and sharp examination of race in the United States, confronting how the country's history repeats and how Baldwin insisted we must remember, relentlessly question, remain conscientious and resist.”
“I Am Not Your Negro” is 93 minutes and rated PG-13 for violent images, thematic material, language and brief nudity.
A discussion will be held after the film.
All Cinema 10 series films are shown on Monday evenings at 7:15 in the Roxy Theater in Potsdam. Tickets are $5.50 general / $45 season or $4.50 student/senior / $35 season.
