CANTON -- The fifth annual Shawna’s Walk for Wishes will take place from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 25, in St. Lawrence University’s Newell Field House.
Organized by the St. Lawrence University’s Center for Civic Engagement, the fundraiser is open to the public as well as the St. Lawrence University community of students, faculty and staff.
The walk began five years ago, after Shawna Cummings, 11, decided to help raise money for the Make-A-Wish foundation. Shawna, who has a rare blood disorder, had her wish granted when she was 5 years old.
All proceeds from this event will be donated to Make-A-Wish of Central New York to grant wishes for St. Lawrence County children who are diagnosed with life-threatening medical conditions. The Shawna’s Wishes group has raised over $37,000, and she is excited again to “give back.”
This year, there will be a vendor fair during the event, bouncy houses for kids and “pick your own” on-site merchandise screen-printing of t-shirts, hats and sweatshirts. In addition to the walk, there will be a silent auction, a raffle, craft vendors and tons of activities for kids.
Those interested in raising money in advance of the event can visit maw.kintera.org/shawnaswfw2014 to register or to make a donation. Info: cce@stlawu.edu or 229-5095.
