CANTON -- Nature Up North invites interested 10th to 12th graders to participate in a free field-based workshop from 1 to 4 p.m. Oct. 21 centered on the emerald ash borer, an invasive beetle that feeds on ash trees which has recently reached St. Lawrence County.
St. Lawrence University senior and North Country local Jessica LaMay will incorporate fundamentals of conservation biology, nature-based learning, and field research methodologies into this three-hour workshop. It is designed to leave participants with knowledge of invasive species and geographic information systems (GIS) software as a tool for conservation projects, and an understanding of a current conservation issue relevant to northern New York.
The workshop will be held off of Park Stret south of the St. Lawrence University campus.
