CANTON -- The father-son duo of John and Jonathan Nichol will take the stage of the Peterson-Kermani Performance Hall in the Griffiths Arts Center at St. Lawrence University 8 p.m. on Thursday, March 5.
The concert will feature John Nichol on piano and his son, Jonathan, on saxophone. Admission is free.
While artists from all over the world have performed in Griffiths Arts Center, this concert has a St. Lawrence connection.
In July, Jonathan Nichol will play in a saxophone quartet at the 2015 World Saxophone Congress, premiering a new composition by Victor Marquez-Barrios, visiting assistant professor of music at St. Lawrence University. The two have collaborated on compositions before in addition to attending graduate school together at Michigan State University.
Jonathan Nichol holds a doctor of music arts degree, a master of music degree and a bachelor of music education degree. He teaches saxophone as an assistant professor of music at the University of Oklahoma.
His father, John, has performed by invitation at seven World Saxophone Congresses, is a past president of the North American Saxophone Alliance and is a professor of Saxophone at Central Michigan University.
