CANTON -- The 5th annual “Fastest Kid in the North Country” competition will be held Saturday, Dec. 8 at the Newell Field House, St. Lawrence University.
The competition is part of the Saints Holiday Relay Track and Field Meet and is designed to promote track and field here in the North Country while garnering donations for the local community.
“This will be our 5th year and we are approaching 100 participants each time that we offer this event,” said John Newman, head of the men’s track and field team at SLU.
Races will be held for children ages two to six and seven to ten. Younger children will do a 55 meter dash, while older children will do the 200 meter dash.
Kids can register for the competition from 10:45 to 11 a.m. Saturday morning, with races to begin at 11:10 a.m. A monetary donation or non-perishable food item per competitor is requested in lieu of an entry fee.
Awards will be presented for each age group, with champions earning commemorative awards and the title “Fastest Kid in the North Country.” Candy canes will be given to each participant.
