Farmers’ Markets open for season around the county

Several Farmers’ Markets from around the North Country are scheduled to open for the spring season including a new location and a 40th year celebration.

DeKalb will host a new market starting on Wednesday, May 7, from 1 to 6 p.m. at Carvel’s Ace Hardware, 4420 U.S. Highway 11.

The Canton Farmers’ Markey is scheduled to open for its 40th year on May 9 at the Village Park on Main Street.

The market runs each Tuesday and Friday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. until November.

The Potsdam Farmers’ Market, behind the municipal lot near Ives Park, will kick off its outdoor season May 10 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

There will be live music throughout the opening day including performances by two SUNY Potsdam a cappela groups.

The market runs each Saturday until November. They will also be open on Wednesdays from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. July through September.

Shoppers can visit the market in Ogdensburg in Library Park, Riverside Avenue on May 10 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The Thursday market will run from 2 to 5 p.m., right outside the Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center beginning on May 15.

The Martins’ online farmers’ market is already open and orders can be placed online Monday through Wednesday with pickup on Thursday. Visit www.martinsfarmstand.locallygrown.net to place an order.

The markets offer in-season produce, cheeses, meats, eggs, herbs, flowers and plants, maple syrup, honey, fresh baked goods, wine, crafts, jewelry, artwork and more.

Other market areas in Fowler, Gouverneur, Hammond, Massena, Norwood and Winthrop will start in June or July.
