CANTON – Political science professor Lauren K. Hall will talk on the topic “Family Forms, Family Functions, and the Political Economy of Monogamy,” at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 21, in St. Lawrence University’s Hepburn Hall Auditorium.
The event is free and open to the public.
SLU’s Department of Economics will host as part of its Visiting Speaker Series in Political Economy.
Hall, an assistant professor of political science at Rochester Institute of Technology, will discuss the role the family plays in balancing the claims of individuals and the groups to which those individuals belong. She will address the functions families should serve in a complex market society and the forms families must take if they are to fulfill these functions. The talk will include a discussion of two politically relevant -- and much-debated -- family forms: polygamy and same-sex marriage.
