CANTON -- To commemorate the 40th anniversary of St. Lawrence University’s Kenya Semester Program, a three-part exhibition displayed through June 12 at the Richard F. Brush Art Gallery will demonstrate the school's activities in Africa.
It includes photographs, arranged by themes over time, illustrating student experiences in the Kenya program, including classroom study in Nairobi, field research across Kenya and Tanzania, urban and rural homestays, and independent study.
Prints from humanitarian photographer David duChemin show the development work of Kathleen Colson and her Boma Project, which helps communities across northern Kenya alleviate extreme poverty.
A third exhibition features student artwork from Nigerian Uli drawing and studio art courses taught by Obiora Udechukwu, St. Lawrence professor of art and art history. West African textiles from the Christopher Roy and Nora Leonard are also on display alongside traditional Yoruba carvings and masks from the gallery’s permanent collection.
The exhibit will be on display from noon to 5 p.m. from May 30 to June 12. Admission is free. Info: 229-5174 or www.stlawu.edu/gallery
