Exhibit in Canton to feature student art illustrating pressures felt by youth today

CANTON -- This semester, students enrolled in Dr. Jessica Sierk’s Urban and Rural Education course at St. Lawrence University worked with students and teachers at Canton Central School on a community-based arts partnership entitled, “What’s Pressuring You? Growing Up in the Modern World.”

Inspired in part by the “Under Pressure” International Graffiti Convention, a street arts festival that takes place annually in Montreal, this project also encouraged cultural exchange between participating students and Canadian artists, Melissa Proietti and Sterling Downey, who have been involved in similar projects.

The exhibit will feature student art that illustrates common pressures felt by youth today including, but not limited to, social media, body image, politics and academics.

The event will run from Tuesday, April 17- Tuesday, May 1 at TAUNY (53 Main St, Canton, NY), with an opening reception from 3-6 p.m. on Tuesday, April 17.

For more information regarding the exhibit, contact Jessica Sierk, assistant professor of education at St. Lawrence University, at jsierk@stlawu.edu or visit the event’s Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/events/354041001768572/.
