CANTON -- SUNY Canton plans to hold several information sessions about the new Excelsior Scholarship, also known as Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s tuition-free college plan.

"The Excelsior Scholarship will be a game-changer for the State University of New York by making higher education even more affordable for many families,” said SUNY Canton President Zvi Szafran. “It will create more opportunities in education, and ultimately careers, for SUNY Canton students.”

Area students and their families are invited to learn about the groundbreaking new free tuition legislation from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, April 20, and Thursday, April 27, in the admissions office in French Hall.

These events are free and open to the public.

“Starting this fall, undergraduate students who are New York state residents whose families earn $100,000 or less are eligible for the Excelsior Scholarship,” said Melissa Evans, the college’s director of admissions. “Families can save more than $25,000 for a four-year degree at SUNY Canton.”

Admissions and Financial Aid representatives will be available to answer questions about Excelsior Scholarship applications and eligibility requirements.

Further information will also be available at the college’s April 29 open house.

New and transfer students can also use these sessions as a chance to apply and immediately be considered for the Fall 2017 semester.

High school students will need to bring their official high school transcripts and their relevant SAT or ACT scores.

Transfer students will need to bring transcripts from their previous colleges.
