CANTON -- A workshop on the invasive pest emerald ash borer (EAB) for forest landowners is set for 5:45 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 1 at the Cornell Cooperative Extension Learning Farm, 2043 B State Highway 68.

All landowners in St. Lawrence and Franklin counties are invited to attend this free workshop, sponsored by the state Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC), Cornell Cooperative Extension of St. Lawrence County, and the state Department of Agriculture and Markets.

EAB is a small but destructive beetle that infests and kills North American ash tree species. EAB was confirmed recently as having reached St. Lawrence and Franklin counties by DEC.

For more info contact Steve Sherwood, DEC Forester, (315) 274-3335 or information.R6@dec.ny.gov.

Forest landowners can also request a DEC Forester visit their woodlot and develop a free Forest Stewardship Plan. Forest Stewardship plans address the landowner's objectives and discuss how the arrival or proximity of EAB could impact the owner's forest resources. Forest owners can schedule a site visit by contacting their local DEC Forestry office. To learn more about EAB, as well as efforts to reduce its negative impact and save trees, visit DEC's website.
