Eastman Triana performs at SUNY Potsdam's Sneel Theater Monday

POTSDAM -- SUNY Potsdam's Crane School of Music will present the Eastman Triana in concert on Monday, March 9 at 7:30 p.m. in the Sara M. Snell Music Theater. The performance will include works by Arutiurnian, Menotti, Milhaud and Schoenfeld.

The Eastman Triana includes Crane faculty member Julianne Kirk-Doyle, clarinet, with guest performers Anyango Yarbo-Davenport, violin, and Yin Zheng, piano.

Admission is free.

The Eastman Triana was formed by three Eastman School of Music alumnae, clarinetist Julianne Kirk-Doyle (Crane School of Music), pianist Yin Zheng (Virginia Commonwealth University) and violinist Anyango Yarbo-Davenport (Juan N. Corpas University in Bogotá, Colombia).

Julianne Kirk Doyle joined the faculty of SUNY Potsdam's Crane School of Music in 2006, and works as an associate professor of clarinet and the director of the Crane Youth Music Camp. She is co-director of the Crane Clarinet Choir and Crane Clarinet Ensembles and co-coordinates the acclaimed Potsdam Clarinet Summit and Single Reed Summit. Doyle has given master classes and performed and presented at numerous conferences across the country. She serves as editor for the clarinet solo and ensembles section of the NYSSMA Manual. An active soloist and chamber musician, Doyle is a member of the Aria Reed Trio and the Eastman Triana. She also performs with the Orchestra of Northern New York and Northern Symphonic Winds. Doyle holds a doctorate of musical arts and a master of music degree in performance and literature from the Eastman School of Music, and a Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Oklahoma. She is a DANSR/Vandoren Performing Artist and uses a Vandoren Profile 88 M30-13 mouthpiece, optimum ligature, Rue 56 reeds and Buffet Tosca Greenline clarinets.

Violinist Anyango Yarbo-Davenport is a winner of the Presser Music Award and has been praised internationally for her captivating performances. Born and raised in Munich, Germany, she is the daughter of African-American soprano Africa Yarbo-Davenport and the late Austrian conductor Hans Peter Jillich. In 2010, she appeared twice at Carnegie Hall as the winner of the International Competition for Romantic Music and American Protegé International. In addition, she won the Most Distinguished Violinist Award and received the Special Mention Award as composer for her composition, "In Memoriam of My Father" from the 2010 IBLA Foundation World Competition in Italy, where she was selected to perform on the foundation's Stradivarius violin at the winner's gala. Highlights of Anyango's 2014-15 concert season include the release of her solo album, a tour of South America, Asia and the United States, with a performance at Carnegie Hall, and residencies as a teaching artist, conductor and research presenter. She is a doctoral candidate at the Eastman School of Music, where she has also received a performer's certificate. Anyango received her pre-collegiate training at the academies of Munich and began her Bachelor's Degree at the University Mozarteum in Salzburg, Austria. Currently, Anyango serves as the chair professor of violin at the Juan N. Corpas University in Bogotá, Colombia.

Pianist Yin Zheng enjoys a career of performing and teaching across the U.S., Europe and Asia. She has been featured on leading music stages, such as Carnegie Hall and Steinway Hall in New York City, and in worldwide reputable music festivals. Following her early training in her native city of Shanghai, Zheng furthered her study at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels. She also completed a doctor of musical arts degree from the Eastman School of Music. Zheng has won first prizes at both the Frinna Awerbuch International Piano Competition and the Empire State Piano Competition. She has earned a high reputation through performing guest artist recitals and teaching masterclasses, at both U.S. and international universities. Zheng is faculty-in-residence at the Lancaster International Piano Academy in Pennsylvania, the Vianden Music Festival in Luxembourg and the Schlern International Music Festival in the Italian Alps. Zheng has performed with jazz violinist Regina Carter, and worked with acclaimed painter and filmmaker Jean Detheux, synchronizing live acoustic performance and visual elements. Recently, she was involved in the recording of the experimental opera "Songs of the Fisherman," scored for tenor, ballet, piano, percussion and string quartet. Highlights of her current projects include a commercial recording of the complete sonatas for piano and violin by Mozart.
