CANTON -- The DuCote Family Karate Club, formerly Steve's Contact Karate Club, will begin offering lessons Sept. 16, at the Canton Town and Village Recreation Department, 90 Lincoln St.
Sensei Steve DuCote, a fourth Dan Black Belt, will teach classes. DuCote began training in 1991 in the Shorin-Ryu Contact system of karate at dojos located in Hogansburg. He opened "Steve's Contact Karate Club" in Malone in January of 2005 and at second location under the same name in Plattsburgh in January of 2006.
Two one-hour classes will be held at the Recreation Department, upstairs in the warm-up room, every Monday and Thursday evening, at 6 and 7 p.m. Lessons are open to students four years-old and up and will be scheduled each quarter in 12-week sessions.
A free trial week is available upon request to give people the opportunity to try a few classes before deciding if they wish to join. Once enrolled, the cost of lessons is $ 95 per session for students ages four to 15 years and $135 for students 16 years and older.
Family rates are also offered. If a parent or parents sign up with their child they would be able attend class at the same times. Families who join together can train together. Each new student will receive a free uniform.
