POTSDAM -- 2011 Droppin' the Gloves on Cancer Tournament will play out this weekend at Clarkson University's Cheel Arena and SUNY Potsdam's Maxcy Hall, in a series of games Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
More than 100 women will play their hearts out in the name of fellow women who have battled cancer.
Three teams will play to be named “B” Division Champion and receive the “Frenchie Cup" sponsored by Frenchie's Ford in Massena.
The Pink Panthers, who are looking for a three-peat,have won their division each year the tournament has been played.
Two teams are vying to be named champion in the “C” Division, sponsored by the Helena General Store.
An indoors “Street Fair” will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Cheel Arena on Saturday. Participants and spectators alike can peruse a variety of crafter booths and take chances on the tournament raffle table.
Saturday afternoon, the Clarkson Women’s team plays the team from Providence College at 1 p.m., and Sunday, Oct. 9, the University of Connecticut team at 1 p.m. “Pink Seats” will be available at $50, to honor women diagnosed, battling, or lost to cancer. Seats can be reserved until Sunday in person at Cheel or by phone at 408-2325.
