Dragon boat races, fireworks, bounce houses, go-carts, bed races and more expected at Waddington homecoming

WADDINGTON – Dragon boat races, fireworks, bounce houses, go carts, bed races and live music will be held in Waddington when homecoming kicks off Aug. 7.

The annual event floods the streets in Waddington with various crafts and food vendors gathered in the village throughout the event.

Friday

Events begin Friday at 9 a.m. with a library book sale. At 10 a.m. a pet show will be held at the Town Hall Square.

The annual teddy bear picnic will take place at noon and bounce houses will open at the same time.

A sandcastle contest will be held 1 p.m. at the town beach followed by a ice cream social at 5:30 at the Methodist church. At the same time a firemen dedication will be held at the fire hall.

An opening ceremony will be held at 6 p.m. at the Town Hall Square followed by the annual diaper derby at 6:30 p.m.

Evening events include a lip sync contest and music from Atomic Precipitation.

Saturday

On Saturday, events start early with a breakfast at 7 a.m. at the Methodist church.

Dragon Boat races begin at 8 a.m. at the town beach. Each boat will include 20 paddlers. The event will benefit the Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center.

A 5k run will begin at Island View Park at 9 a.m. The library will also continue its book sale at 9 a.m.

At 10 a.m. no octane go-cart races will be held on Pine Street. Also at 10 a.m. will be a quilt show at the Episcopal church, a craft show and flea market at the Town Hall Square, bounce houses at Island View Park and a dunk tank at the Town Hall Square.

Music continues at 11 a.m. with Donna Miller at the gazebo. Chicken barbecue will be served at the same time at the fire hall.

A car show will also be held at 11 a.m. at Island View Park.

At 2 p.m. Amazing E & A Races will be held at the Town Hall Square.

The annual bed races will follow at 2:30 p.m. at Mack’s Tavern.

At 6 p.m. the annual parade will begin with various organizations and emergency response teams.

Music continues at 7 p.m. with Double Barrel Blues at Island View Park followed by the annual duck race.

At dusk a fireworks display will be held at Island View Park.

Sunday

The fund continues Sunday with a waterslide at the town beach from 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. At noon, PCP Barbecue will cater a community picnic at the town beach. Mary Ann Casale and Tax Cru will perform.

A cupcake war is slated for 1 p.m.
